Hotel Lobby Study; L’elysee

The design of the conversion of an old hospital buildig into a hotel in Kazan reflects a classic aesthetic with the use of terrazzo as the single material of the interiors with brass details. Terrazzo in different particle sizes was used both on the floors and walls, rendering the whole lobby into one unified space. The brass detailing was used both in niches and in railing details as well as in the inlays of the floor.

A grand artwork composed of layered textiles were proposed to occupy the third dimension of the lobby, creating a colored-center of attraction within the minimal- terrazzo background of the interiors.

The project covers the entrance lobby of an old hospital’s conversion into a hotel.

Architectural elements are at the heart of the design concept, with features such as staircases, walls and columns taking center stage.

The entrance space itself is made of terrazzo and features a series of elements such as the elevator-stairs and lounge area all carved with terrazzo.

The brass finish unifies the different grade terrazzo surfaces and the hotel’s proposed name l’elysee.

The brass strips form a grid on the floor as well, separating different grain terrazzo flooring, continuing to the walls unifying the space through materiality.
