UES Residential
This project is situated on the Upper East Side, on Lexington avenue. Surrounded by historic landmark buildings, the building faces a mostly residential area. Fitting within the volume defined with zoning regulations, the building completes the elevation pattern of mostly mid-rise buildings along. The building rises 18 storeys above ground. It consists of 1,2,3 and 5 Bedroom apartments along with Penthouse suites.
The building articulates three separate parts following the traditional tripartite composition of the New York tower: base, shaft and crown. The base occupies the full width of the site and contains a double-height first floor lobby. A decreased footprint marks the start of the shaft. This set-back creates an outdoor terrace accessible to residential tenants. The crown that sits with a twist is established by double-height spaces for the two penthouses.
The façade relates to the aura of the historic buildings nearby, presenting a contemporary interpretation. The tectonic composition of the building is elaborated with the bronze and brick detailing lending the building; a classical but timeless appearance. Ozge led Eaa design team.
Fitting within the context for the site : the urban character, styles, textures, collective memory of the surroundings.

The interiors and exteriors are extensions of each other.
The terrazzo mix used for the interior façade elements contains different aggregates & varieties, seen very much in the surrounding historic landmark buildings. Brass strips that turn into niches, extrusions to hold sculptures and to signage introduce a rhythm to the interiors.
Lighting design is used as a tool to craft the feeling of the new development. The concept is based on providing additive indirect lighting to build the total-lighting and then adding task lights whenever necessary.

interior and exterior architectural approach complement each other
A media installation by the esteemed media artist, Refik Anadol is a significant element of the entrance experience. Adding a blue-purplish light to the interiors, this is a perfect way of merging the classic and the new.
